Preceptorship Program

The Anesthesiology Department preceptorship program is four consecutive weeks during the break between MSI and MSII year or the MSII and MSIII year. First and Second year Medical Students at UTHSCSA interested in the field of Anesthesiology are eligible for the program. Students interested must have proof of current medical and liability insurance and get approval through the medical school associate dean for Academic affairs and fill out an application. Applications can be picked up from the secretary in room 212k at University Hospital.

All students will be notified as to whether or not they have been accepted for the program at least 45 days before the start of the break between MSI and MSII year or the MSII and MSIII year.

The students chosen will be given the opportunity to observe in the operating room paired with an anesthesiology resident for one month. The hours will be approximately 6:15am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. It is important to apply as soon as you are certain of your availability and commitment to completing a preceptorship. A stipend of $600.00 (4 weeks) will be paid.

If additional information is needed, the program director is Dr. James Rogers, in room MS 331F, or his assistant Kathy Hudiburgh, in room MS 321.5E.
